Marvel Studios have taken films to the next level with Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.
The story beings with Shang-Chi valeting cars with his best friend Katy. A postcard from his sister arrives with a mysterious address from his home country. Then a gang of Kung Fu thugs turn his world upside down.
We follow the crew to a fight club run by his sister who still holds a grudge, to his father’s kingdom and then to his mother’s childhood home. There’s plenty of Asian mythology and symbolism woven through the storyline.
There’s a number of notable scenes for special effects buffs – the martial arts on the side of a skyrise building’s façade, the bendy bus fight scene, the beautiful bamboo forest and the water play in the end credits. The level of detail to create these amazing scenes is phenomenal.
Shang-Chi is a standalone film that neatly introduces us to his backstory and family while showcasing the best of cinematography and special effects.
The film opens in Qld Cinemas on 2 September 2021. In VIC, NSW and ACT cinemas from 16 September 2021.
