Nutritionist Phoebe Conway says, “Smoothie bowls are the trend that never ends, and for good reason! They are super delicious and packed with so many nourishing ingredients! However, far too often I see recipes packed with sugar, both natural and added (e.g. fruits and sweeteners like honey).”
“While there is nothing wrong with that, if having them daily it’s important to make sure they are BALANCED. This is an example of how to create a low-sugar smoothie bowl – I also froze Califia’s Vanilla Oat Milk in ice cube trays to help thicken the smoothie without adding loads of banana and it works a treat! (it’s completely unsweetened and also fortified with calcium and vitamin D!)” she said.
“The addition of a source of protein (protein powder) and fats (hemp and nut butter) also helps ensure this bowl will keep your blood sugars balanced and keep you feeling full all morning,” says Phoebe Conway.
