X&Y I assume refers to the male and female chromosomes which determine our gender. This film is an exploration of each gender and their alter egos.
The film is based on two characters a female director (Anna Odell) and her infatuation with the heartthrob film star Mikhael. They each have three actors who perform their alter egos (please note that the genders don’t align).
The action takes place in a warehouse with a number of actors sets.
The actors fight with each other, in and out of character. The two psychologists attempt to reign in the actors’ feelings about each other and the lack of script. The actors interview each other.
It is an interesting concept that gets terribly lost in translation. It’s super unusual.
When the film is over, I’m none the wiser about what it was all about.
1 star.
X&Y is showing as part of the Scandinavian Film Festival.
