As the nineteenth gives way to the twentieth century and scientific invention brings forth new ways of traversing and seeing the world, a modern American family, the Otis’, move into their new English country home, Canterville Chase. Unbeknownst to them, the house is haunted by a previous owner, Sir Simon de Canterville, who has been terrorising the grounds for over three hundred years.
But instead of being frightened, the new owners welcome the company of the cranky old aristocrat, especially the children – Virginia, Kent and Louis.
From the original story penned by Oscar Wilde, The Canterville Ghost is not simply a ghost story. It is a tale about acceptance, redemption, and the power of empathy. The unlikeliest of characters make the biggest transformations.
This is a fantastic ensemble of British voice talent – Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Imelda Staunton, and Miranda Hart, funny as ever as the ghost hunter.
The Canterville Ghost opens nationally on Thursday 11 January. Check local guides for screening times.
