Interview with Justene Sharp-Jones from Missy Noir Lingerie

We recently caught up with Justene Sharp-Jones from Missy Noir Lingerie, who kindly gave us an exclusive interview

Tell us about your online shop Missy Noir:

Missy Noir is more than a lingerie website or online boutique. Missy Noir wants to help build a community to support girls and women to evolve with a healthy body image and promote radical self-love. We focus exclusively on beautiful, wire-free lingerie for women, featuring bespoke labels which all celebrate the female form without compromising it.

Missy Noir prides itself on its small and boutique labels. The designers we feature have handmade these unique lingerie pieces with love, for our customers. We have curated the collection from all around the world whilst ensuring that our environmental footprint is minimal, and our items are ethically made.

Missy Noir supports local Australian businesses in Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne alongside our designers from Chile, Portugal, and United Kingdom – with more to come!

How did you get interested in lingerie?

My experience in Nursing acquainted me with the fragile nature of female body image, which is where my passion and idea for Missy Noir formed. Missy Noir aims at providing young females with a healthy body image and help embrace their true body shapes and alleviate unhealthy and unrealistic standards you find with many other lingerie brands. After all… we are not all Victoria Secret Models.

I also just had a slight obsession myself for bralettes, they uplifted my mood and helped me style my outfits in a more fun and playful way. Because when you’re wearing something special and pretty, even if no one else sees it – you immediately feel better.

Describe your style aesthetic?

I love anything unique, cute, and that can show your personality. I personally don’t pull off the ‘sexy’ look, but doesn’t mean I can’t be in myself in my own cute way. Loving different textures and different fabrics that shout out fun.

What’s the biggest challenge working in fashion?

Fashion has been a completely different industry to healthcare. I feel like I need to always look the part and that’s hard for me after being used to rocking up to work in scrubs (which aren’t the most flattering). But to be honest, the more I’m in the industry, the more I feel ok to experiment and be myself, which I am finding super exciting.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love having the freedom to choose and style the products we have, making lingerie, not just a necessity or a sexual item but something that can make everyone feel good from the inside out. Also, collaborating with other brands and designers to create inspiration for the perfect bralette outfit and continuing to build a community of self-love and empowerment.

Who or what inspires you?

All the amazing women I’ve met. Everyone has a story and I enjoy hearing them. Whether it’s these amazing business women who have worked her arse off to gain the respect she deserves or an Instagram follower who loves the new lingerie and tells me her story of her transformation of her body confidence.

Do you have any predictions for lingerie and fashion?

The ‘worn to be seen’, ‘innerwear as outerwear’ isn’t a new concept but is definitely becoming more and more popular. One of the most prominent trends from the Milan Fashion Week Spring 2018 Collection was sheer tops and sheer dresses that showcased the natural form and highlighting the lingerie.

Furthermore, with the announcement of the Pantone colour of the year – it is likely Ultra Violet be a star in the new styles and moods we will be seeing. Ultra Violet stands for inventive and imaginative, lighting the way to what is yet to come. So really, the opportunities are endless!

What’s next for you?

Missy Noir has a super exciting and busy year ahead. We have already started planning for more runway shows, finding more independent designers to showcase and started collaborating with local designers and photographers to bring more content, fun blogs and fashion inspo for your bralette outfits.

About Missy Noir Lingerie

Missy Noir is a contemporary girl, streaked with a sensuousness that runs through everything she does. She’s dynamic, independent and enjoying life is what she’s about. From her wardrobe of beautiful handmade bralettes, she picks one to match her current mood, throwing a sheer top over the top and showing off her favourite lingerie.

Her free-spirited side refuses to be restricted by underwear which conforms her to a cup size: she only wears pieces that enhances her unique shape. Of course, these are beautiful enough to be seen and liveable enough to be worn – allowing her to be the most confident and empowered self.
