We recently caught up with Anastasia from Mood Design, who kindly gave us an exclusive interview
Tell us about your work
I’m an Interior Designer, Decorator and Stylist.
How did you get interested in interior decorating?
I’ve loved design as a kid. I use to spend my school holidays organising my room and mum’s house and making it look pretty. I would love reorganising furniture and decluttering my wardrobe – and even mum’s pantry!
What’s the most common mistake people make when styling their own home?
They try too hard or add too much. Keep it simple and don’t overthink it. Also, keep things practical so the home is still functional and the layout supports the things you love to do.
Can you describe a typical day?
When I’m not on a site project, I’m usually on the laptop most days either checking emails, taking quotes, planning workshops and events and designing projects. Working on projects involves site visits, calls/visits to suppliers and lots of coordination.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Winning the HIA Interior Decoration award in my first year in business. I entered it at the last minute not thinking I would win and when I was called up on stage, I was completely blown away. I still can’t believe it.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love when clients trust me and give me complete freedom to do my thing. I look forward to seeing their face when the project comes to completion – just like a television show reveal. It makes my efforts worthwhile.
Who or what inspires you?
I take inspiration from all sorts of sources from cooking to photography, nature and new cafes and bars. I love being and moving within a space to really feel and experience it – not just see it in a magazine or on tv.
Do you have any predictions for interior decorating?
There’s a trend for going back to basics and simple living. We are so busy that our homes have become a dumping ground so making a home into a place you can really enjoy, relax and rejuvenate is becoming more and more in demand.
Do you have any plans for the next 12 months?
To grow my business, expand into hospitality projects and take my workshops to Bali.
