Here are some ways you can celebrate Oktoberfest for Brisbane residents.
Aldi
You can buy lots of German-made products from your local Aldi supermarket. Think mustards, cold meats and cheeses, sauerkraut and more.
Cook Your Own German Feast
You can save money and cook your own German feast at home. Look for authentic German Sausages made by the Wiener Wagon or Brat Haus.
For dessert, you might like to pick up something sweet from the King of Cakes in Clayfield, or your local bakery. You can buy sweets like Apple strudel or Black Forest Cake. Look out for German cookies such as Linzertorte or lebkuchen.
If you want something healthier, you could serve a fresh fruit dessert like rote grutze. It is made with mixed summer berries that are either fresh or frozen. Add some bowls with Candied almonds and German cheese.
Decorate the table with a light blue and white checked tablecloth. You can raid your relative’s China cabinets or visit an op shop for some beer steins.
You can find a German playlist of songs or yodelling on Spotify!
Where to Buy German Beer
You can explore some authentic German beers at your local bottle shop. Think Lowenbrau.
Local Brewery
Several of my local breweries are holding Oktoberfest events. These venues are serving German-style beers on tap:
- Archer Brewing Windsor
- Flat Lizard Brewing, Stafford
- Happy Valley Brewing Company, Stafford
- Slipstream, Yerongpilly
