I’m a fan of Luke Hines’ cookbooks, so I was keen to try out his new book called Guilt-Free Snacks.
Here you’ll find a delicious collection of 60 sweet and savory snacks. There’s a focus on gluten-free and refined sugar-free recipes. The book contains ample recipes for anyone following a special diet including dairy-free, low-carb, nut-free, and plant-based.
If snacking is your weakness, then you’ll find some helpful tips for hacking your diet to make it healthier. There are some doable ideas on how to smack smarter.
The book starts with drinks and a handy guide to build your own smoothie. This is followed by super tempting bliss balls including Lamingtons, Lemon Delicious, Black Forest Cake Bombs, Snickers Inspired, and how to build your own bliss balls.
Then you’ll find some dishes to fuel your fitness goals packed with nutrients. This section includes instructions on how to build your own protein-packed smoothie-bowl, protein packed bars and cookies.
If you’re looking to swap to better snack options, then here’s some homemade dips and cracker recipes without the nasties. Be tempted by garlic pita bread and lemony tahini dip, sweet potato fries and build your own seed crackers.
If you’ve a fan of baking then this section includes low-carb pumpkin and seed loaf, banana and blackberry bread, keto cakes, carrot cake squares and build your own muffins. I’m keen to try vanilla slice slab and salted brownie biscuits.
Luke has a down-to-earth philosophy of creating a healthy version of your favourite foods rather than cutting them out cold turkey. Think banana pikelets, popcorn chicken nuggets, fast fish fingers and build your own chocolate fudge. There’s some Aussie classics reinterpreted – Marz Bar, Hedgehog slice, Western Wheel and Cherry Delight.
The book ends with some crowd favourites to address emotional eating. Here are healthy versions of pizza, tacos, nachos and build your own nice ice cream (based on frozen bananas).
The book concludes with conversion charts and an index.
We enjoyed homemade ‘chicken’ salt potato crisps and bangin’ banana pops.
Guilt-Free Snacks is ideal for anyone who needs to overhaul their snacking options.
