Blacklight follows Travis, a freelance fixer as he tries to bring out of line officers back to the good side.
A journalist starts investigating unexplained events. Her dedication and curiosity results in a conflict with her boss, who tries to dismiss her hunches. This story branch is the most interesting and deserved more screen time.
Then Travis’ his old pal, FBI Director, Gabriel Robinson shows another side and starts to meddle.
The film follows a well-trodden storyline – and there’s nothing ground-breaking or innovative here. I wouldn’t have minded if this film had gone on longer and delved a little deeper into the storyline.
Of course, there are solid car chases that don’t last too long.
Did you know Backlight was filmed in Canberra?
The family moments with his daughter are lame. We’re told about OCD as if we’re a child, rather than shown.
Blacklight is a forgettable chase down the bad spy with corrupt leaders seeking revenge story. If this type of film is your jam and you’re a Liam Neeson fan then you’ll enjoy out. Otherwise, you can comfortably leave this for streaming.
