Ultimate Weekends: Australia covers over 60 destinations from every state and territory.
The book starts with an introduction and a map of Australia. The author explains the benefits of travelling in a vintage caravan, and tips for sustainable travel. There’s an informative ultimate Aussie Wildlife Guide.
The second half of the book is divided into the Australian states. For each state, there are recommendations on the top can’t miss places and top experiences. For each location, there is handy information on planning your trip, spots you can’t miss and suggested day trips. The author explains how best to get there, travel around, when to go and where to stay.
The Queensland section covers Brisbane, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), The Gold Coast, K’gari (Fraser Island), Yunbenun (Magnetic Island), Bundaberg region, Tropical North Queensland, The Great Barrier Reef, The Whitsundays, Hamilton Island, Torres Strait Island and Outback Queensland.

I’m keen to explore Bruny Island, The Whitsundays, Lord Howe Island, Gariwerd (Grampians), Barossa Valley, Rottnest Island and the Margaret River.
Be tempted by a stay in a tiny house off-the-grid, the Blue Mountains in World Heritage wilderness, Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island and Kangaroo Island.
It’s great to see many of the indigenous names for places have been included.
There’s a list of handy travel apps and helpful websites.
