Anton Corbijn, the brilliant music video auteur, iconic photographer, and director of the Ian Curtis biopic Control spins some historical wax as he gets into the grooves behind some the most iconic album cover art of all time.
Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey “Po” Powell formed the iconic album art design studio Hipgnosis and became rock royalty during the 1970s. Storm and Po created some of the most recognizable album covers of all time, including Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”. The team’s work graced the LPs and the gatefolds of Wings, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and AC/DC across the golden era of 1970s.
While it reflects on such a culturally significant period of time in the arts and music industry, at the heart of Squaring the Circle is its telling of a relationship formed between two unlikely friends and creatives.
Featuring recollections from wall-to-wall musicians including the likes of Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, David Gilmour and Roger Waters along with Noel Gallagher and Peter Gabrial, this entertaining showcase is a must for music, art and history lovers.
Squaring the Circle premieres 8.30pm tonight as part of the 2023 British Film Festival at Palace Barracks Cinemas. Check your local guides and the festival website for other screening times.
