Overlooking the Brisbane city skyline atop the iconic Pullman Brisbane King George Square, wrapping itself around for an intimate view of the city’s landmark City Hall Clocktower, Sixteen Antlers provides a welcome escape from the weekday grind.
Sixteen floors up, this exclusive-feeling venue, which comforts its guests with both high-top tables and lounge seating, is ripe for both after-work wind-downs and weekend party favours; the acoustic guitar live performer on hand wonderfully off-set by the accompanying chilled house soundtrack.
Beer and wine drinkers are supremely well catered for, with Yarra Valley selections, such as Chandon Sparkling Rose and the In Dreams Pinot Noir, balancing the likes of the Byron Bay Lager and Burleigh Brewing Co.’s Twisted Palm tropical pale ale. For those inclined for something a little less classic, the list of signature cocktails – including the “Berry Warmer” (Sailor Jerrys, Cranberry Juice, Lemon, Cinnamon & Clove syurp) and the “Gin Sling” (Tanqueray, Sweet vermouth, lemon, sugar syrup, Bitters and soda) – will more than do the trick, whilst the extensive spirits list can quench the thirst of anyone remaining; may I suggest the Brookies Dry gin since we’re at it?
The food menu, predominantly designed for sharing serves, nails the bar options you’d expect – your chips, your salt & pepper squid, your cheese boards – but offers up some genuine treats that I can’t let you pass up upon your visit; if you don’t order the netted prawn and crab cigars or the crab salad mini brioche slider, your experience isn’t complete!
Complemented by warm, welcoming staff, Sixteen Antlers – word for the wise, the entrance is via the lift in the Mercure Tower (Ann St) – is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking a trendy, Insta-worthy locale without contending with the overt crowds. Sometimes the city crowd just hits a bit different from the usual Valley patrons, and Sixteen Antlers caters for such with style.
