If you are keen to watch a movie in the open air at a Moonlight Cinema in Brisbane, here’s everything you need to know.
There’s something magical about watching a film on the big screen feeling the grass beneath your feet and bats flying above.
Where is the Moonlight Cinema
The Brisbane Moonlight Cinema is currently located at The Amphitheatre, Roma Street Parklands, Brisbane City.
The Moonlight Cinema has previously been held at New Farm Park near the Brisbane Powerhouse and the Botanic Gardens.
Parking
You can find paid parking in nearby streets or within the Roma Street Parklands.
What to Take to a Moonlight Cinema
I packed all of my items in a backpack as there was a little bit of a walk uphill to the spot. It’s close to the Roma Street train station if you want to catch public transport.
My companion had a cooler bag and packed a can of soft drink with ice, potato crisps, and some chocolate.
You might like to take:
- Beach towel for sitting on or wrapping around your legs if you get cold (it’s lighter than a picnic blanket) and/or pillows
- Jumper
- Picnic basket or cooler bag with unbreakable glasses
- Don’t forget the insect repellent
- Yes, you can take your dog! Your pets must stay on a leash doing the film.
Food
We ordered a classic Angus beef pie and a Thai chicken curry pie with fries. A gourmet sausage roll might tempt you. Vegetarians can order a plant-based pie or spinach and ricotta roll.
You’ll be spoilt for treats. You can order freshly made churros with cinnamon sugar, Nanna’s apple pie, or a chocolate pie (all served warm). There are ample snacks including Parlour Lane popcorn, Maltesers, potato crisps, Connoisseur ice cream, and more.
We shared a bottle of rose wine but considered the Singleton Cocktails – the official cocktail for the year. There are soft drinks, sparking and still waters, mocktails, Mr Stubbs cocktails, and Aperol Spritz.
You can order food and drink by scanning the QR code via Mr Yumm. But you must place your order before the movie starts.
Our neighbours were eating takeaway Asian, pizza and more. Why not do an Uber Eats order and just pick it up somewhere nearby? BYO alcohol is not permitted.
Seating
There are three types of seating tickets. We were early and fortunate enough to get front-row seats in the premium area. If you’re in the general area, you might like to sit in the back row as there’s extra room to stretch your legs. General admission is the most affordable option with a discount for Cinebuzz members.
There are a limited number of bean beds to hire for $10.
What to wear to a Moonlight Cinema
You can dress up if you’re on a big hot date, otherwise, it’s fine to dress casually. I wore shorts and my companion wore stockings under overalls. Ugg boots and Oodies are acceptable
