Ballerina focuses on Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is seeking revenge for the early death of her father.
The film takes place during the period of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. We discover her backstory as an orphan who trains in the ballet and later as an assassin of the Ruska Roma traditions.
Daniel Pine (Norman Reedus, The Walking Dead) kicks things off at the start. History repeats itself, and Eve finds herself protecting his daughter.
There’s a small chapter featuring John Wick (Keanu Reeves).
The action scenes are good, and it’s non-stop. The scenes inside the Continental Hotel and with the flamethrower are novel.
But we hardly get enough time to feel emotionally invested in the new characters.
Apparently, Ana de Armas did her own stunts. Turns out you can’t just swap Eve for John and have the same storyline. She doesn’t suit the stoic personality, and some of the fight scenes are beyond unbelievable.
John Wick: Ballerina isn’t as good as the Keanu-led ones, but it’s worth a watch.
