We chatted with Abbey Crompton from Nourish’d about their meal delivery service:
Tell us about Nourish’d:
Nourish’d is a wholefoods, pre-made meal delivery service that delivers across Queensland, New South Wales, Canberra, South Australia and Victoria.
With over 50 meals on a weekly rotating menu, including vegetarian options, we work with nutritionists in the development of all meals. Partnering with two nutritionists (Stacey Harris from The Chief Life and Kelly Hodges from Coastal Dietetics), we only create meals with whole food ingredients, that are gluten and preservative-free. Nourish’d is unique in that fact that we offer no contracts, cancellation fees, or lock-in periods for customers.
What motivated you to start the first Nourish’d?
We were sitting in a paleo cafe on a Sunday, in Paddington. We were working hard all week, and Sunday rolled around and we were spending our whole day food prepping because we’re gluten and lactose intolerant. We thought, ‘why isn’t there a meal delivery service that caters for paleo?’ No one is doing it, we think there is a space. Sunday was the idea, I quit my job on the Friday, we launched the company a few weeks later on my 26th birthday. 18 months later, Dave came into the business full time and is now our Operations Manager.
What’s unique about your meal delivery service?
Nourish’d was one of the first meal delivery services that offers gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, nut-free, and paleo-friendly home-delivered meals. We also offer zero contracts, no lock-in periods or cancellation fees. We are also one of the only (if not the only) meal delivery services that offer three different portion sizes.

What dishes do you offer at Nourish’d?
We have over 50 meals on a weekly rotating menu. Every meal is gluten and preservative-free, and we also cater for vegetarian, dairy-free, sugar-free, nut-free, and paleo diets.
What are some of your most popular dishes?
Beef Cheek Ragu, Pumpkin Lasagne, Ceasar Salad, Chicken Masala… and anything with Pork Ribs!
How do you cater for special dietary requirements?
Vegetarian, Keto, Paleo, Nut Free, Dairy Free, Preservative Free – we’ve got all the main dietary requirements covered.
Can you describe a typical day?
Early starts! I am not organised the night before so I need to be up early to get all of the baby things organised for their day (2 and 1 years) – it’s also my alone, quiet time to just sit (run around!) with my thoughts. From there it’s the hustle of breakfast and getting out the door for daycare drop – a terrifying time of day when at any moment you could be accosted by a parent wanting to talk about their child with you (having children does not make you interested in other people’s children!). As CEO my work days are generally taken up with meetings – internal with my team of legends, external with suppliers, and wheeling and dealing for some of the amazing new partnerships we have coming up! I try to get a lunchtime workout in at the office where I can – but honestly, some days just getting time to eat is a miracle! From there, daycare pickup and a nice long walk with the babes before the chaos of dinner/bath/bed, and finally wine and Netflix (OINTB is life at the moment!)

What are three foods you can’t live without?
My coffee and salted caramel bliss ball for breakfast, and wine – Ninth Island Rose is the current fave!
What do you love most about what you do?
My personal mission is to create sustainable businesses that contribute positively to the world, and offer an environment for people to do their lives best work. My favourite part about what I do is is being in the position to stay true to this every day.
Who or what inspires you?
I am actually most inspired by looking at all the things I despise about the industry I work in, and doing the exact opposite of that. I’ve always had this need to stick up for people when I feel they’re being wronged, and the more I see other companies doing unethical shit, or outright lying in their marketing, the more I am inspired and fired up to keep going!
Do you have any predictions for the food industry?
I think we’ll start to see some consolidation of companies that are essentially selling the same product, as well as more niche companies coming into the space. There will also be some fantastic and much-needed innovation in making what we do so much more environmentally friendly – moving away from single-use plastics, the use of electric vehicles for couriers etc.
Do you have any plans for the future?
Oh my gosh, we have so many plans! The days the plans run out, we should no longer be in business! There are many more expansion opportunities geographically, not only in Australia but looking to global markets. Fitness companies are really coming on board now with the nutrition side of what they do, so partnerships are going to be big for the future of Nourish’d. And we’re never not innovating our menu – now that we’ve launched our vegetarian range we’re looking at what else we can make magic in in this space.
