UrbanBogan is an Australian online shop which sells authentic, stylish and affordable leather bags and accessories.

“Our brand acknowledges the rustic charm of leather hence it’s Bogan, however our style is modern and chic and so it’s urban in look and feel.”

The owners were keen to create a small business based on ethical and eco-friendly principals. As a result, they use suppliers which they have had personal contact with and tend to use small family businesses rather than big factories. They make sure their shortlisted suppliers have fair pay and conditions and ethical work practices.

“One of our supplier based in Kolkata hired both the husband and wife so they could both feel comfortable while working. We check the companies strictly adhere to a ‘no child labour’ policy which is sadly still prevalent in a lot of industries in India. We have a process to conduct a site check at least once every year, and if we notice any supplier not complying with our policies and standards we will strictly not work with them for all our current and future endeavours. This is the reason it took us almost 1 year to conceptualise the entire business plan because we wanted to put extra effort in creating a multi option, ethical and environment friendly supply chain.”

The leather is sourced and made in different parts of the country, as different regions in India are known for their expertise in different forms of leather. All of the UrbanBogan backpacks, clutches and wallets are made of full grain vegetable/Cat-ionic tanned leather which matures with prolonged exposure to sun and oil from hands and creates a unique patina on the surface and makes the product look more beautiful with time.

In addition to using ethically produced manufacturers, UrbanBogan works with tanneries which take the extra effort to eliminate toxins not only from the leather but also put extra efforts in responsible waste management at the same time.

We road tested the John Tan Clip wallet and found it to be well made. It has lots of pockets for all of your cards and best of all it has RFID (anti card theft) protection. The authentic Buffalo leather is of premium quality and I love the cute check pattern inside. It’s one of the most popular selling wallets.

I also tried the Corvus iPad cover which is a nice black leather outside and tan inside which is stamped with the Urban Bogan text. My iPad fits snuggly and it’s the perfect way to protect the case without the weight and space. The top is made with Sheep Nappa leather and the lining is padded brown leather to provide cushioning. You could easily show it off at work or an important meeting as it looks professional and classic.
