Thor Love and Thunder follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth on his quest to stop Gorr the God Butcher’s (Christian Bale) mission to destroy all of the gods.
Joining him is King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Jane has stolen his look and weapon, so there’s some tension in the air.
Along the way, we met an eclectic group of characters, with a highlight being Zeus (Russell Crowe).
The film needed some more back story on Gorr, or near misses to build up the battle. I felt like the script needed more audience testing on some of the scenes (perhaps cutting out some of the corny moments).
There were some light-hearted moments with jokes, but sometimes they missed the mark. The serious scenes (Jane is dying in hospital) were a little superficial. The soundtrack was enjoyable.
Thor: Love and Thunder is an enjoyable addition to the Marvel series, but it’s not going to be one of my favourites.
About Thor: Love and Thunder
Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” finds the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise, inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as The Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Thor: Love and Thunder is released in cinemas everywhere on 6 July 2022.
