The Lost King is all about amateur historian, Philippa Langley’s search for King Richard III’s remains.
It was thought he had been thrown in the river and The Tudors spread some propaganda about him!
The King had been lost and misunderstood for over 500 years. Until Philippa took on a passion project to find out more about him. Her research was thorough. She joined a local history society (Richard III Society) of fans and wrote to leading historians, academics, and experts.
She was frequently met with scepticism, and there’s plenty of academic snobbery, mansplaining, and political hijacking.
To make things harder, Philippa struggles to live with chronic fatigue syndrome and is co-parenting two kids with her ex-husband.
The story is told from Philippa’s viewpoint – and some parts are hard to believe they happened the way they did! The imaginary visions add some context.
Academic Richard Taylor is considering legal action for inaccuracies in the film, but Steve Coogan and director Dan Winch are standing by their version.
The Lost King shines some light on a misjudged historical figure and ultimately Philippa is rewarded with finding his remains beneath a car park in Leicester.
Australian release date of 26 December 2022.
