Even though they are not as popular as the American events there are a lot of big sports events that are held in Australia that are quite popular and well-visited. Here are some of the biggest ones.

Even though all eyes are not pointed towards the Australian sports scene like the American where the big sports events are transmitted to the rest of the world, and where several people engage to bet on super bowl there are still many sports events worth watching in Australia.

The Australian Open

This tennis tournament is one of the more popular and worldly known sports events in Australia. It is held every summer in January in Melbourne and it is happening over a two-week span. It is a very big event attracting a lot of tennis fans. And it actually draws even more audience than similar events in Europe and the US, such as Wimbledon, the French Open and U.S. Open. It goes by the nickname Happy Slam, and this event is a gathering of some of the best players across the globe which makes it very interesting and entertaining. It takes place both in large stadiums as well as in smaller courts.

The Australian Grand Prix

This motorsport event takes place every year in March, and this also attracts plenty of attendees and is one of the biggest sporting events in Australia. As well as the Australian Open this Formula 1 event is held in Melbourne more precisely it is hosted by Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. This is an event with a quite massive international audience and a lot more than just Aussies are following this race closely. People might not be engaging in the odds as much as the super bowl odds, however, people still engage in betting on this particular event.

The Melbourne Cup

Yet another event that takes place in Melbourne, the Melbourne Cup. This is a pretty festive, enjoyable and quite famous horse race. Arranged by The Victoria Racing Club every year this cup is for thoroughbreds of 3 years and older. And this event has even become so popular that it is the centre of a national holiday. It is held in November on the first Tuesday each year. The venue is naturally focused on the competition but it is also a place for social activities, great atmosphere and food and it is an even a popular theme for a party. This is a great event to participate in even though you’re not the biggest sports fan.
