The Big Sick is a heart-warming comedy about two people who fall in love based on the true story of the courtship between Kumail Nanjiani (who plays the lead) and Emily Gordon (played by Zoe Kazan).
The couple have to deal with the cultural differences of their families and the belief of Kumail’s parents in continuing the tradition of arranged marriage. Suddenly Emily ends up in a coma with Still’s disease (yes it’s a very rare autoimmune condition).
The film lets us walk a mile in our hero’s shoes and it has a real genuine feel that develops slowly. As a bonus, there are tons of laugh out loud moments and quiet giggles. The humour is supported well by Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as Emily’s parents.
The Big Sick is a great option for your next date night or if you are in need of good belly laugh.
Highly recommended.
Showing in cinemas in Australia from Thursday 3rd August 2017.
