I prefer to take a train and then a tram to the Gold Coast. But you could also consider taking:
- a bus – takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, with a cost from AUD$15 to AUD$35
- a train and tram – takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, with a cost from AUD$10 to AUD$15
- a taxi or ride share – takes approximately 55 minutes, with a cost from AUD$180 to AUD$230
- hire a car and drive – takes approximately 55 minutes
Bus from Brisbane to Gold Coast
There is a Greyhound Australia bus departing from Brisbane and arriving at Surfers Paradise. Services operate every day and depart three times a day. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Train and Tram from Brisbane to Gold Coast
The Brisbane to Gold Coast train service runs on the red Beenleigh line. It usually departs from platform 1, Central station. This service is operated by Translink. Visit the Translink website.
You’ll then need to catch a G:link tram on the Gold Coast Light Rail. I recommend getting on at Helensvale station. These generally run every 15 minutes. Visit the Ride the G website.

- to check your Translink account every 3 months for any errors (you can report any mistakes or overcharges and have them refunded to your account)
- you can ask a staff member for advice on your trip – you can also ask fellow travellers (but sometimes they might give you the wrong advice)
