We chatted with Kiyomi McPherson from the Brow Bakery:
Tell us about the Brow Bakery
It’s a place where men and women come to receive real results for their brows in a heart-warming environment. Each client experience is nothing short of amazing – The Brow Bakery brings a whole new level of results and service to the table!
How and why did you get started in the beauty industry?
I originally started out as a hairdresser when I was 16. Fast forward to when my first son was 4 months old and I craved getting some of my identity back. I wanted to do something that I could turn into a long-term career that would work around my family.
We were visiting my husband’s family in NZ and I could not stop thinking about getting back into the beauty industry. I found a course that allowed me to learn lashes and brows and booked it! Within weeks of arriving home, I was away again training to re-enter the industry!
What sparked your interest in specialising in brows and lashes?
There was such an obvious gap in the industry for specialised treatments. However, specialising in brow and lash treatments simply isn’t enough – being a leader in providing second to none customer service and educational information to the public comes with being a specialist in my eyes.

What are your favourite brow and lash methods?
The Brow Bakery’s methods – haha! For my lash lifts, I use Elleebana solutions as I won’t skimp on quality!
What happens in a Bakery Banquet session?
This package is designed for those that want a full eye pamper – brows and lashes will be perfect and all without makeup!
First, we start off with your lash lift. This is a semi-permanent lift from your roots that requires zero maintenance. Throughout your treatment, I will explain exactly what I am doing – your eyes are closed, so I’m your guiding light!
Once we’ve achieved this eye-opening (literally) result, we will create those brows! You’ll be treated to a calming brow massage and an optional session on the easiest way to fill in your brows with The Brow Bakery’s very own brow balm!
Tell us about the Natural Brow Creation School?
The Natural Brow Creation School is learning how to achieve a real brow, by working with your client’s real brow hair (whether it’s there yet or not!) We do not use methods like tint staining or henna, and there are definitely no stencils or measuring with rulers.
I’ve tweaked and I’ve trialled and I’ve made mistakes and everything in between. All of this led me to create such divine, beautifully created brows, that I knew I had to put pen to paper and educate others on how to understand the brow and work with your client in giving them an easy to maintain brow for life.

You don’t only learn about brows; you learn how to make your business the benchmark for brow results and client experiences.
What is your biggest pet peeve about how people who do their own brows?
I don’t have one – I’ve taught myself not to look at someone’s eyebrows if they aren’t in my salons. If they’ve come to see me, they’re obviously needing and wanting an easier brow to work with!
What’s one beauty trend you wish would disappear?
Microblading. This technique is so so traumatising to your skin. The scarring, the discolouration and the fact that literally, ANYONE can book in to ‘learn’ this technique is quite scary. Microblading is a trend, cosmetic tattooing is not.
I’m also a trained cosmetic tattooist and I received such invaluable training that was 2 weeks full time with ongoing mentoring. 2 days is simply not enough and it is offensive to the general public who are trusting their brows, eyes or lips in the hands of those who undertake said training.
Anyone who knows me, knows how passionate I am about educating the public on the differences between microblading and machine tattooing.
What do you think will be the next trend in the beauty industry?
Oh gosh! I haven’t thought about that too much. I just know that every industry and every trend comes and goes; and comes again and goes again. Fingers crossed it isn’t those shaved parts of eyebrows!
What are your predictions for the brow and lash industry?
Those that aren’t transparent with their clients will be overlooked for those in our industry who continue to provide real information and genuinely care for their clients and how they’re providing their treatments.
What are you up to right now?
Right now, I’m meant to be on holidays, however, I’m taking notes for other directions I’m planning to take The Brow Bakery.
Do you have any plans for the future?
We will be releasing some very exciting news in the next couple of months about our brow training!
I will be in the USA and NZ in September for work. I will be looking to offer the Natural Brow Creation School training in salons during this time!
Where can people find out more about the Brow Bakery?
I love when people reach out to me via social media to ask questions – whether you’re my client or student or just someone with a question. You’re welcome to subscribe to my newsletters through www.thebrowbakery.com.au – never any spammy content. I don’t like it either!
