A hidden gem aptly named Hideaway Kitchen & Bar has opened up in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. Those of you escaping these winter blues for a road trip definitely need to add this to your dining list! Hideaway dishes out Asian inspired street food that will make your mouth water.
Located amongst the residential buildings on the Gold Coast Highway don’t let its simple exterior fool you. Inside lies a huge restaurant with graffiti art on the walls and neon signs. The parasol lined ceiling can be opened up in the balmy summer nights to star watch or closed to keep the guests warm under big cozy gas lanterns in winter.
The restaurant does 2 dinner seatings on weekday nights starting from 5 pm and more on the weekend when they open from midday for lunch. That being said this place gets packed so don’t forget to book your table ahead of time as this Hideaway is fast becoming a favourite with locals and out of towners alike.
It’s no doubt this place was bound to be a hit when you have a look at their menu. They have something for everyone! I went with a group of 7 for a birthday event and our table was flat out even making a dint on half their menu items! We were spoilt for choice.
I do have to make a special mention of their amazing Fried Honey crab and prawn wontons with chilli spices which were my favourite plate of the night. The explosion of flavours of sweet honey mixed with soft crab, prawns and spices all wrapped up in a crispy coating, and before I know it I had devoured the whole plate of these treats on my own. Once we ordered more everyone raved about them so if you’re a seafood fan give them a try when you visit.
Serving sizes were quite reasonable – it’s kind of like tapas and the plates are meant to share. Their small plates could easily be shared with 2 people for an entreè or a bigger group as finger foods with the main menu plates being more meaty with bigger servings. The dumplings and Bao come out with 6 per plate! Yum! Solo lunch time here I come next time!
The popular “Street feast” menu option is another way to enjoy Hideaway, and includes pretty much all the food you can eat. Your waiter will ask you the type of foods you enjoy and what you don’t and will then make all the hard choices for you bringing you out plate after plate of delicious Asian street foods.
Some major hits with our group were the Bossam style Pork Belly which melted in your mouth and had an amazing flavor, the Salmon Poke with Green Chuka Wakame, Sticky lamb ribs which fell off the bone and of course the customary Satay chicken skewers which had the perfect amount of peanut to spice ratio.
And if you think you can possibly eat anything more check out their street style desserts. We opted for the Dessert platter which came out with a bit of everything which was the perfect topper to our Hideaway evening.
Whether you are dining solo or gathering with mates we give Hideaway a big thumbs up, so recommend getting on the phone, making that reservation and beating those winter chills at this tasty restaurant.
