To celebrate Halloween, I booked into the original Brisbane Ghost Tour of Toowong Cemetery.
We met at the Toowong Cemetery gates and after a brief safety talk, we visited our first gravestone. Then we walked around the cemetery visiting other gravestones and spots and heard about Brisbane’s dark history.
Over the two-hour guided tour, you’ll hear about Lily the Vampire, Mayne and Cox, The Black Widow, The Black Prince and The Angel.
You must wear flat enclosed shoes – think sneakers. You’ll need to be reasonably fit. There’s a couple of steep hills. You’ll need to have a torch, so you can see what you are stepping on.
Please note there are no toilets available during the tour, so go beforehand.
You might like to practice your night photography before attending, as you’d don’t get much time in between spots to take photos. There are some fantastic views of the cityscape.
The price of the tickets includes a donation to keep the gravestones in good condition, cleaned and repaired, as needed. You’ll also receive an illustrated book called ‘Ghosts of Toowong Cemetery’ by Jack Sim at the conclusion to read more ghost stories.
Held on Friday and Saturday evenings. Private tours are optional.
