
Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology houses a priceless collection of antiquities and fine arts from around the world.
Collection Highlights
You can discover treasures and artefacts spanning 500,000 years of human history.
You can view:
- prehistoric Europe, the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Roman Empire and Medieval Europe up to modern times.
- The Ancient and Classical World is represented by artefacts from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Israel, Persia, Greece, the Etruscans and ancient Cyprus.
- There are also collections from the Islamic world, South-East Asia, China, Japan and India.
The collections include prehistoric stone and bone tools, ceramics, glass, stained glass, metalwork, coins, sculpture, carvings, lacquerware, illuminated manuscripts and rare books.
The art collection which includes Renaissance and Baroque paintings, frescos, watercolours and icons is not currently on display. The Museum is building an Art Gallery and Café extension to exhibit some of their remarkable art collection. This will be open to the public in late 2024.
View the beauty of the stained-glass collection in the Abbey Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Group and school excursions are available.

The Abbey Museum holds regular events including the popular annual Abbey Medieval Festival.
You can purchase souvenirs in-store and from the online shop.
The Abbey Museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Museum is open on all school and public holidays except Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Anzac Day morning.
