Interview with Alison from The Mindful Wealth Movement

31 July 2017 by brisbanista Leave a Comment

We chatted with Alison Gray from the Mindful Wealth Movement about her business and improving the way we approach our finances.

Tell us about the Mindful Wealth Movement

The Mindful Wealth Movement is a uniquely feminine program focused on improving financial well-being. We offer face-to-face events, workshops and wealth wellness retreats in Brisbane and on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, as well as online programs and personalised money coaching.

Describe your company in a few words

We inspire women to create a conscious and purposeful relationship with money.

What motivated you to start the Mindful Wealth Movement?

My business partner and I have backgrounds in financial planning and business. We regularly deal with people who are confident and capable in other areas of their lives, yet find dealing with money overwhelming or stressful. It’s such a huge issue – in fact, 49% of Australians say that money is the leading cause of stress in their lives.

Our experience was that many people, particularly women, didn’t connect with traditional financial education programs. Most of these programs are very skills-based and ignore the huge influence that our mindset and emotions have on our behaviours with money. With our interests in yoga, wellness and personal development, we saw an opportunity to offer a more holistic approach to supporting people to develop healthy financial habits and attitudes. And so The mindful wealth movement was born!

Can you tell us about your beautiful Abundance cards?

We’re so proud of these beauties! They are an inspiring boxed set of 52 Abundance Affirmation + Intention Setting Cards to help support you to develop a positive money mindset and empowering money habits. The cards can be used to set monthly intentions around money, and take actionable steps aligned with powerful positive affirmations. We believe it’s essential to align your thoughts, feelings and actions towards abundance to create true and lasting change in your wealth and well-being.

What’s been your proudest moment?

What makes us proudest are the little moments where we know we’re making a difference. Like when someone comes up after we’ve spoken at an event and says we’ve inspired her to start saving a small amount each week for the first time. Or a client shares that they now have clarity and a greater sense of control over their financial future. Of course, we were also super proud of our recent successful crowd funding campaign where we raised over $20,000 to deliver more financial well-being programs for vulnerable women in South East Queensland! We’re so grateful to our wonderful supporters for making that possible.

Tell us the most important business lesson you’ve learnt so far?

Be guided by purpose and be driven by passion. It’s amazing what opportunities you attract, and the motivation you have to move forward when you are clear about why you do what you do.

How does your business give back as a social enterprise?

Our mission is to build women’s financial capability and life skills around money so they can lead happier, healthier and wealthier lives. For every woman who enrols in The mindful wealth movement online course or face to face workshops, a scholarship is granted for another woman to participate in the program too. We also work closely with a number of local community organisations to deliver financial well-being programs for vulnerable women. In addition, we speak regularly at women’s groups and corporate events to inspire and empower women to better manage their relationship with money.

Who or what inspires you?

At the moment I’m getting a lot of inspiration from listening to podcasts while walking beside the river on a beautiful winters day. I love taking time out for some fresh air and a regular dose of inspiration by listening to interviews with entrepreneurs and other interesting people.
