Gin Loot – Best of Australia – Tasting Box – Review

If you’d like to try a few gins before you invest in a full-size bottle for your home bar, then Gin Loot is the answer.

My husband and I tried the Best of Australia Tasting Pack. It arrived in a neat box with three cute bottles of gin and expert tasting notes by the house Gin specialist. We received:

  • Archie Rose Distilling Co. Signature Dry Gin – premium taster (60ml)
  • Husk Distillers Ink Gin – premium taster (60ml)
  • Lark Distillery, Forty Spotted Rare Tasmanian Gin – premium taster (60ml)

We were able to sample all three different gins with soda water from our Soda Stream on a Saturday big-hot-date night at home. It’s best to try these with soda water so you taste the individual flavours and nuances highlighted in the tasting notes. Although, you might prefer to try them with tonic water for a classic, Gin and Tonic.

My husband enjoyed the Lark Distillery gin the most – you could taste the native Tasmanian pepperberry as its signature note. I was super keen to try out the Ink Gin from Husk Distilleries. It has a unique characteristic in that it turns from blue to bright purple when mixed with acidic ingredients (like lemon or lime juice or tonic water). The secret in the colour change is a butterfly pea flower infusion. Archie Rose’s dry gin was bursting with citrus fruits, a little bit of marmalade and mintyness.

Did you know that Ink Gin by Husk Distillers is Margot Robbie’s all-time favourite gin?

If you’re feeling a little fancy and have all the right ingredients, you might like to make the cocktails suggested for each gin:

  • Archie Rose Distilling Co. Signature Dry Gin from Roseberry, NSW – Gibson cocktail, garnish with rosemary
  • Husk Distillers, Ink Gin from Tumbulgum, NSW – Southside cocktail, garnish with strawberries
  • Lark Distillery, Forty Spotted Rare Tasmanian Gin from Coal River, TAS – Aviation cocktail, garnish with an orange wedge

You can order your Gin Loot as a one-off tasting pack, monthly subscription or yearly subscription, and standard bottles at members pricing, and quality mixers like tonic water and ginger ale.

Gin Loot is a great way to explore the world of Gins and is the perfect gift idea.

Highly recommended.
