We chatted with Brittany Ainsworth owner, Cenote Casa Bathhouse, Woolloongabba.
How did you get interested in bathhouses?
I decided to take some time away from nursing to travel, where I found little slices of heaven all over Asia and Central America. I really enjoyed the bathhouses in Japan and Mexico’s natural swimming holes (Cenotes), which I later named my Bathhouse after.
These experiences in such beautiful locations seemed to release all life’s stresses, but also made me wonder why we didn’t have a little slice of heaven back home in Brisbane?
Once returning home I decided to bring all these experiences to the heart of Brisbane. An experience that focuses on our wellness, and wellness to me means body confidence and being your best possible self – physically, mentally and socially and these are all things that the Bathhouse aims to nurture and encourage.
What can you do at the Cenote Casa Bathhouse?
Cenote Casa is a communal unisex bathhouse where everyone can relax and unwind at their own pace. We provide a complimentary spa towel, herbal detox tea and water with free range of the facilities including a cedarwood sauna, magnesium plunge pool, heated hydrotherapy spa, steam room infused with essential oils, and sun deck and lounge areas.
I have a slight obsession with plants and our customers always comment on our tropical oasis and how it reminds them of Bali. We often see people running back to their locker to grab their phones to take photos. It’s heartwarming that others are appreciating the time it took to bring this space to life in Brisbane.
What do you need to bring?
You just need to bring your swimmers and for best results for your skin remove all makeup, fake tan, lotions and oils.
Who typically visits the bathhouse?
We are seeing a range of people visiting the bathhouse from solo sessions who come in to relax and meditate or read a book, couples spending time together, or just groups catching up with friends. We also offer private sessions, ranging from birthday parties and baby showers to even hens parties.
What’s your favourite way to relax?
When I actually find some time to myself, I like to use the Bathhouse facilities to unwind. My favourites are the steam room enriched with essential oils and to chill out in our ten-person spa.
Who or what inspires you?
Travelling is one of my passions and I love learning about different cultures and traditions whilst exploring the beauty of the natural world. My love for plants came from travelling through the tropical climates of Asia and I’ve tried to bring that to the Bathhouse (maybe a tad too much my father would say!).
Do you have any plans for the future?
Wedding plans are very slowly starting to take shape in the background and we aim to travel to Europe for our honeymoon. We actually are planning on having our wedding at the Bathhouse! However, work never stops at the Bathhouse as I’m always working on ways to make your Bathhouse experience with us even better. I’m really looking forward to introducing more people in Brisbane to the experience that is Cenote Casa Bathhouse.
