The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder by C. L. Miller is the beginning of a wonderful, new crime series featuring Freya Lockwood. It starts with a letter from her recently deceased mentor, Arthur Crockleford, which begins, “Freya, it’s down to you to finish what I started…”
Freya has avoided the quaint English village in which she grew up for the last 20 years. That is until news arrives that Arthur Crockleford, antiques dealer, and Freya’s estranged mentor, has died… and the circumstances seem suspicious!
“You will uncover a reservation, I implore you to attend. .”
An ordinary pine chest concealing Arthur’s journals, including reservations in her name, are revealed, and thus Freya finds herself sucked back into a life she’d sworn to leave behind.
“But beware, trust no-one. Your life depends on it. .”
Joining forces with her eccentric Aunt Carole, Arthur’s steadfast best friend, Freya follows both clues, and her instincts, to an old manor house that is hosting an ‘Antiques Enthusiasts Weekend’.
All is not as it appears, however! Freya soon discovers that the antiques are bad reproductions. Also, the other guests all seem strangely and scarily menacing and extremely secretive.
Can Freya and Carole solve the mystery surrounding the weekend before the killer strikes again?
This wonderful novel is a rollicking ride of suspense and treachery with its own brand of humour!
For lovers of crime and intrigue, it also has the bonus of exposing the antique world’s underbelly and the machinations of unscrupulous dealers and other even more dangerous criminals.
For all lovers of crime and mystery, with more than a touch of humour, this is a definite must-read for 2024!
