people2people Recruitment, a leading recruitment agency operating in Queensland, released significant findings from its annual Employment and Salary Report, offering valuable insights into the state of employment in the region.
The report reveals that Queensland employees lead the nation in expressing dissatisfaction with their salary not aligning with their performance or skill set. Additionally, 32% of employees are resigning due to a lack of career opportunities, 15% attributed their resignation to low pay and 14% to a non-supportive work culture.
Looking ahead to 2024, employees in Queensland are prioritising flexibility, with 51% planning to request more flexible working arrangements. This is followed by 41% of employees intending to negotiate a pay rise and 30% seeking additional employment benefits.
In a notable trend, Queensland employers are leading the nation in terms of hiring to drive growth, with 44% actively recruiting for growth. Furthermore, 53% of employers plan to replace existing roles, indicating a dynamic workforce landscape. However, significantly 24% of employers have no plans to recruit at all in the upcoming year.
Commenting on the findings, Ben Wheeler, QLD Managing Director at people2people Recruitment, stated, “Our report also reveals that 59% of employees in Queensland currently feel their teams are understaffed, emphasising the importance of addressing underlying issues within organisations.”
“However, skill shortages are still a struggle for many employers, and employees’ expectations when it comes to work flexibility must be taken into account by employers who want to snatch the best performers out of the market this year. It is crucial for employers to listen to their workforce’s needs and adapt to create a supportive and fulfilling work environment.”
As of February 2024, in Queensland there were 57,400 online job vacancies, the unemployment rate was sitting at 4.3%, while annual job ads were down 0.4%.
