A Scented Life is a modern take on aromatherapy. This is a lovely investment book that you can use for reference or keep on your bookshelf as an in-depth read.
The hardcover book is divided into the following chapters: the History of Aromatherapy, Understanding Pure Essential Oils, A Guide to Scent, Blending, Inhale, Application Methods, Health and Wellbeing, Women’s Health. The last section is your toolkit with a quick reference chart, index and more. There are scattered colour images throughout.
I was surprised to learn there are fragrance classifications, like zesty, herbal, spicy, resinous (like gums, resin), earthy, woody and floral. The most expensive scents are called precious petals, these include rose, neroli, jasmine absolute, ylang ylang, I like Roman and German chamomile, but I’m not so much into not overpowering roses nor sandalwoods.
There is an intriguing inhale chart – I might need to take some more time to understand this section.
There is information about choosing a base oil, and how to use essential oils, like body massage, use in the bath tub and footbath, facial oils, and beard products. You can find out how to enhance your relaxation time and sleep. How to use the essential oils for cold and flu defences, and first-aid applications.
Please be careful when using essential oils as some need to be used with caution and in small amounts. Perfumes and aromatherapy are always a personal preference, so it is good practice to ask your work colleagues before you start burning essences, even if you think you have only used a couple of drops in a modern electric burner.
A Scented Life is a keeper for my bookshelf.
