The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holt is the rollicking tale of the romance and rivalry between two spies as they brave pirates, witches, and fake matrimony to save the Queen.
Alice, aka Agent A, is the prime operative within the Agency of Undercover Note Takers, a clandestine government intelligence group that is, fortunately, far more skilled at espionage than at naming itself. From managing dishonourable witches to coping with petulant aristocratic ladies, nothing is beyond Alice’s capabilities. She always has a steely equanimity and a cunning plan up her sleeve (alongside her deadly dagger and an intricately embroidered handkerchief). When rumours of an assassination plot begin to circulate, she finds herself on the case.
She finds that she’s not working alone, however! Daniel Bixby, infamously known as Agent B, and Alice’s greatest rival, has bestowed upon him the most challenging undercover assignment of his life! That is, feigning the position of Alice’s husband! Together they will adopt the identities of husband and wife to infiltrate a pirate house party, and so foil their adversaries’ disloyal and evil plans.
Alice and Daniel are both in agreement that they must disregard the growing attraction between them, particularly since acting upon it may prove even more hazardous than their quarry!
Think “Monty Python/Little Britain/The Pink Panther/Love Actually” and climb aboard for the time of your life, floating across the universe in magical houses and experiencing all things piratey.
So many wonderfully crafted characters, plus enough madness and mayhem to tickle the funny bone, while stumbling through the intricacies of love and romance.
A hilarious must-read for 2023!
