US President George Washington’s career began on battlefields across the wilderness of 18th-century North America.
This is where Young Washington takes us. In his early twenties Washington is an eager officer leading the Virginia Regiment. He desperately wants a regular commission in the British Army, but has been rejected. So he’s given instead a motley crew of Virginia locals. They fight but are forced to surrender.
The narrative builds toward the infamous 1755 Expedition and the Battle of Monongahela, for which Washington volunteers as an aide-de-camp. But he is forced to step up as, against his warnings, the British is ambushed by the French. The young soldier will confront the realities of war, the betrayal of high-ranking officers, and the true cost of his own ambition.
William Franklyn-Miller as Washington gives credibility and nuance to the role—balancing Washington’s intensity with the vulnerability of a young man realizing his ideals don’t match the brutal world around him.
