You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry is about two young people, Poppy and Alex, who find they both hail from Ohio (he from West Linfield, she from East Linfield), when they meet on orientation night at the University of Chicago – 12 Summers ago.

11 Summers ago –  they share a road trip home from Uni. in Alex’s car, become friends and make a pact to spend one vacation together every summer.

10 Summers ago –  they decide to spend their first holiday together at Nanoose Bay, on the east coast of S. Vancouver Island. Poppy holds Alex’s hand when she discovers his fear of flying.

7 Summers ago –  Alex and Poppy visit New Orleans, drinking their way around the city!

6 Summers ago –  Poppy is working in New York for the “Rest and Recuperation” magazine company. She reviews top end holidays for their followers, who are rich influencers. She has recently broken up with her boyfriend, whereas Alex, now a High School teacher in their hometown, has settled there with his partner.

5 Summers ago –  Alex has ended his relationship. He and Poppy holiday on Sannibel Island off the coast of S. W. Florida.

4 Summers ago – their trip is combined with an R and R work trip – 4 days in Sweden, 4 days in Norway. Booked into the fabulous Ice Hotel, Poppy goes down with a sore throat and a fever.

2 Summers ago – it all goes wrong! Poppy and Alex become estranged from each other!

This Summer – Poppy decides to ask Alex on one last trip to Palm Springs, California at a desert resort city within the Coachella Valley. Will they decide, once and for all, to end their friendship and go their separate ways in the future?

A quirky, sometimes heartbreaking, but more often heartwarming, novel, that puts a different slant on love, friendship and family. It intimates how these relationships shape us and sometimes break us. Deeper than it initially appears, it is overflowing with amazing locations and quirky characters.

And, what’s not to love about Poppy and Alex even though their relationship is one long, and often hilarious, rollercoaster ride?

A feel-good must-read for 2021.

You and Me on Vacation is available in paperback, e-book and audiobook.
