Welcome to Bowen Hills is designed to be a permanent indoor bar with a rotating set of Brisbane food trucks. It is located in the Dairy Hall and Sugar Building on the EKKA site.

The space has a casual vibe and is perfect for families or weekend catch-ups with friends.  There are red mini shade clothes shaped providing some cover.

On the day we visited, the food trucks were:

• The Wurst Dogs (hot dogs)
• Mr Burger
• Smart Cumin BBQ meat skewers

We enjoyed our classic and double burgers from Mr Burger.  There were other burgers, chips and vegetarian burgers on offer.

The website has the full roster of food trucks and vans – so our tip is to check it before you go. The bar is fully stocked and has tiki-themed cocktails and craft beer.

The weekly schedule is:

• Wednesday: trivia night – booking essential
• Thursday: dogs, yoga, gin
• Friday: lunch and late nights
• Saturday: new events each week
• Sunday: $10 tiki drinks and $10 tallies

The secret Swill boutique gin bar wasn’t open at the time we visited (coming soon).

The Milk Bar was closed due to a private function. It sells an ode to Ekka strawberry ice cream, spiders, floats, shakes, gelato and ice cream sandwiches.

The concept is similar to Melbourne’s Welcome to Thornbury and managed by the same company.
