Opening over the Christmas period, comes one of the crowd favourites at this year’s French Film Festival – Two Tickets to Greece. Imagine a French version of Mamma Mia, exploring the trials and tribulations of friendship instead of a paternal mystery.
Three childhood friends – Laure Calamy, Olivia Côte, and Kristin Scott Thomas – take a hilarious trip down memory lane in Marc Fitoussi’s (Call My Agent!) new comedy.
Blandine (Côte), freshly unhitched and grappling with an empty nest, reluctantly finds solace in the whirlwind that is Magalie (Calamy). As their contrasting personalities navigate idyllic Amorgos (the stunning setting of Luc Besson’s The Big Blue), their clashing vacation styles threaten to push Blandine off the edge.
With temporary accommodation provided by old friend Bijou (Scott Thomas), Blandine and Magalie get to the heart of what caused their break up, and what might mend it. All while enjoying the many gourmet delights and male interests along the way.
Calamy is a golden child of French cinema right now. Her energy is contagious and it’s hard not to be catapulted into her character’s world. Though the end of the film is welcome respite.
This is a feel-good summer time flick; well worth spending time with these characters, alongside breathtaking Aegean vistas.
Two Tickets to Greece opens nationally on Boxing Day. Check your local guides for screening times.
