Thursdays at Orange Blossom House by Sophie Green, the author of much-loved Top Ten bestsellers The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Book Club and The Shelly Bay Ladies Swimming Circle, is her latest novel.
In Far North Queensland, 1993, Grace Maud, 74, a former sugar cane farmer, is feeling her age, and somewhat isolated since she moved into town. Her son, Tom, has taken over the farm, leaving her with no other interests in her life.
In the same small town, Patricia, a high school teacher, has moved back home to care for her elderly parents, forsaking her desire to travel the world.
Cafe owner, Dorothy, is anxious and depressed fearing her latest pregnancy will end too soon, as did the others. She may have to accept that the child that she and her husband, Frederick, so desperately want will never be.
To fulfil an unknown need each woman finds herself joining the Thursday night yoga class at Orange Blossom House. Their vibrant teacher, Sandrine, persuades and drives them to test their strengths and weaknesses. In doing so they gradually discover and manage their karma, making long-lasting friendships along the way.
Thursdays at Orange Blossom House is a moving, beautiful novel of three women at a turning point in their lives, who bond with each other to discover that the past CAN be left behind for a brand new dazzling future. Love, friendship and family can make anything possible no matter at what age.
The glorious, luxuriant atmosphere of tropical North Queensland makes a wonderful setting for this novel. The main characters are relatable to the reader, many having been in one of the same situations at some point in their lives. Whether the outcome was similar or not, the narrative gives hope for the future.
We would all benefit from having a Sandrine in our lives!
An uplifting must-read for 2021.
