Three Juliets by Minnie Darke narrates the story of 1980s designer, Claudie Miller, who has become a household name. Teenage girls are begging their mothers to make them their famous dress, the ‘Juliet’.
There is, however, a big hole in Claudie’s life! Sadly, sixteen years ago, she was forced to give up her baby for adoption. Now she has decided to track her daughter down before it’s too late!
Meanwhile, Roisin, Miranda and Bindi will all be sixteen on the same day. They have been raised in different families, and various parts of the country. Therefore, they know nothing about each other or their connection to the dress that is on every teenager’s lips.
The Juliet, however, was designed with one of them in mind, and its threads are slowly pulling them ever-closer to the truth.
A relatable story that will be familiar to many women growing up in that era. Whether they experienced the same trauma or if it happened to a relative or friend. Unfortunately, forced adoption was a common occurrence. Thankfully, times have changed, and young women now have the right to choose to bring up their beloved child.
Poignant and beautifully narrated, this is a definite must-read!
