Sunnydene Nursery opened to the public 6 months ago and is situated on 4 acres. It is located in Sunnydene Road, Chandler off Old Cleveland Road. It can be accessed from either Tinchbourne Street or Camrose Street. Turn right off the former and the nursery is about 150metres on the left or turn left off the latter and the nursery is about 250metres on the right.
The nursery’s owner, Maurice, learnt his horticultural skills from his parents, who ran a garden nursery in Ireland. This inspired his ambition to set up his own business in Queensland.
Over the past year, Maurice and his team have propagated and potted an amazing variety of plants, both indoor and outdoor varieties, native plants, herbs and other edibles.

Grab a trolley and stroll along the broad pathways to choose those that catch your eye. The choices are endless. Friendly advice is at hand for those who need it.
A particular favourite with customers is the beautiful Frangipani “Everlasting Love”. Plumeria Pudica is a large shrub frangipani growing to about 3m high in a vase shape. Its glossy, green, hammer head shaped leaves are non-deciduous, unlike the more common varieties. Large clusters of clear white flowers with a small yellow centre appear most of the year except in winter.
Beyond the vast array of potted plants, Pete, a Nationally Accredited Horticulturist with a Certificate 5/Diploma in Horticulture, runs a government funded training school. Students can achieve Certificate 3 in Landscape Construction plus a Machine Certificate, and/or a Certificate 3 in Production Horticulture, including plant maintenance and irrigation. Both courses take 3-4 months to complete and include hands on practical teaching in the nursery.

Two students have recently completed their internship at the nursery and are now in full employment there.
Working from the shipping container that serves as an office is Ash, the Business Development Manager, who also helps in all other aspects of work on the nursery as an integral part of the team.
Work on further facilities for the nursery is ongoing with future plans for a cafe and the development of more shade and shelter for the increasing number and variety of plants. In particular there is the goal to attain a leading role in the propagation of native plants from seed and an extensive range of Australian native edible plants.

There has also been the recent addition of a new range of fibreglass pots specially manufactured for Sunnydene. They can be bought individually or in sets at very reasonable prices and will enhance any garden.
Whether you need horticultural inspiration or advice, innovative flora or a pot for that special shrub, you won’t be disappointed and the helpful, friendly service is highly commended.
Sunnydene Nursery also works with commercial suppliers, offering competitive rates for wholesale orders.
