Sparkling: The Story of Champagne is a documentary behind the scenes of sparkling wine.
I had a friend who only drank Champagne. I’ve never appreciated it as she did, so I was keen to find out more. If you need a crash course in the history of champagne, then this documentary is perfect. We are introduced to many of the key players and brands in the industry.
Of course, you’ll hear about how great the French Champagnes are, but there’s a mention of American and English sparkling wines too. Sadly, there’s no mention of Australian wine, but that’s okay.
It’s interesting to see how these traditional brands are trying to attract a younger audience, with collaborations at film festivals, product placement in films and television and advertisement featuring rappers, athletes and celebrities.
You’ll hear about Winston Churchill’s love for Pol Roger and the legend of the French monk, Dom Perignon. You’ll even see how Queen Elizabeth II’s vineyard is going.
We both felt the need to have a glass of champers after watching the film, to see what all the fuss was about.
Sparkling: The Story of Champagne is showing as part of the upcoming British Film Festival.
