We’ve been tasting all of the Australian cider at our local bottle shop. Here are our thoughts.
Bacchus Brewing – Farmhouse Cider
The Farmhouse cider is brewed on British and Australian apples and fermented on French oak. Complex multi-dimensional flavours and made in Capalaba. More like a British scrumpy cider. 6.2% ABV. 4.5 stars.

Colonial Brewing Co – Bertie Cold Pressed Apple Cider
A sweet apple cider with a nice rounded flavour. Look out for the lime green can with the smiling apple drawing. The recipe is based on Victorian grown apples like Red Galas and Sundowners, resulting in a refreshing medium-dry finish.
The cold press cider is made in Bertie Street Melbourne. It’s brewed in the very same building that once produced the popular Australian show bags containing Bertie Beetle chocolate treats. An Australian owned and Australian made cider. 4.6% ABV. 3 stars.

Little Creatures – Pipsqueak Apple Cider
The green label says it is crisp and refreshing with a 2 out of 7 flavours on the flavourmeter (I’m not sure what that means?). This apple cider is very sweet but it’s is made on freshly crushed apples sourced from the Adelaide Hills. 5.2% ABV. 2.5 stars

Young Henrys – Cloudy Cider
Young Henry’s cloudy cider is very agreeable. It’s a farmhouse style of cider made with locally grown Royal Gala and Pink Lady apples. There is no added sugar, syrups or water. This results in a cider that has a natural fruit sweetness with a tart apple finish. As a bonus, it’s also gluten-free and vegan-friendly. 4.6% ABV. 4.5 stars. https://younghenrys.com/
