Not what I was expecting, My Brothers Band is a comical and emotional story of circumstances that connect us.
Thibaut (the exceptional Benjamin Lavernhe) is an internationally renowned orchestra conductor who travels the world. When a health crisis and subsequent DNA test inadvertently reveals that he was adopted as an infant, Thibaut discovers the existence of a younger brother, Jimmy (Pierre Lottin). Jimmy lives in more modest circumstances; he works in a school cafeteria, cares for his mother, and plays the trombone in a community brass band.
The pair seem to have little else in common other than a love of music. Feeling a little guilty at the unequal distribution of fortunes, Thibaut decides to help nurture his brother’s gifts and promote the community band at the same time.
My Brother’s Band is a rousing, feel-great story of two strangers united and strikes an enjoyable balance between laughter and tears. A small town bond at the heart of the brothers connection brings authenticity, beauty and hope. Those that like a little classical music thrown in will be satisfied with the performances sprinkled throughout, and a rather emotional piece at the conclusion.
