We were a bit excited to discover that alcoholic root beer had appeared in Brisbane.
Future Memoirs of a Root Beer
East 9th Brewing from Victoria were first to market in Australia with the release of its Future Memoirs Of A Root Beer. The signature flavours are detectable with a good balance of sassafras, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger. It’s a refreshing drink but we both thought it was a tad on the sweet side. It reminded me of my year spent overseas and the root beer floats* my mum used to make during my childhood.
What is Root Beer?
Root beer is a popular (unalcoholic) soft drink from America. It has a distinct flavour of sassafras. *A root beer float is a soft drink with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Look out for American company Bootleg Botanicals who have kickstarted the first all natural Root Beer home brew kit in 200 years! You can craft litres of your own soft drink. It’s perfect to serve with ice cream or cocktails. Add your choice of alcohol or keep it kid-friendly.
Alcoholic root beer provides a great alternative to traditional beers.
Please leave a comment if you have tried alcoholic root beer or know of one in Australia we should try.
