We chatted with Scott Mains from Big Little Dreams:
Tell us about Big Little Dreams
Big Little Dreams is an online story-book and clothing store that aims to educate and inspire young children. Positioned in the children’s development space Big Little Dreams believe in making a difference, one book at a time.
Providing children with fun and easy-to-read books and matching T-shirts, Big Little Dreams are moulding the minds of children across Australia!
Big Little Dreams believe every child’s brain is a sponge, and as such should be soaking up as many positive messages as possible.
With the goal to provide children between the ages of 1 to 9 years old the educational resources to learn and develop good habits, Big Little Dreams is the ideal gift for parents.
What motivated you to start Big Little Dreams?
As we know children will inevitably become our future leaders and if you can catch someone at the beginning of their
I was looking at the quality of children’s’ books on the market and identified that ‘yes’ the artwork and content was user engaging and easy to read, however, the content in the majority of the books was built solely on entertainment, missing key values that could be instilled at a young age. My little brother and sister are consumers of this information and it really sparked a flame that we could really make a difference in the children’s development space.
I believe, and after thorough market research found that there is a want for this type of product and as a practical move we have the books to provide the message directly to the reader, and the t-shirts to spread the word.
What is your most popular selling product?
70% of the overall products sold has been our No Bullying Collection (biglittledreamsaustralia.com/products/no-bullying-bundle). It has shown to have hit close to home for many kids and parents alike.
Why did you decide to focus on children’s books and clothing?
Books – The story-books were a practical idea to have the messages portrayed in a fun and engaging way. Therefore kids will be engaged with the content, but walk away with a deeper meaning in place.
T-Shirts – The T-Shirts were added to make it a more appealing gift for a child and as an easy way to spread the word. We are looking at other clothing options to combine with the books including ‘sun-smart’ bucket hats and a few others in the near future.
What are some of the ways Big Little Dreams gives back?
I personally believe as a small business it’s very important to give back and provide something for the community and the city as a whole. Currently, Big Little Dreams donates AUS$1 from every purchase to Camp Quality and we are looking to get more involved as we grow with community activities.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight so far was providing Guardian Childcare with a large number of Equality Collections as part of a King Street event in Bowen Hills. It wasn’t far from the Big Little Dreams launch and was a great event to be a part of. We are looking to get involved with more Child Cares and Retailers in the near future.

What do you love most about what you do?
Big Little Dreams has really combined both a business and a passion to place children in the best position possible to be successful. Regardless of one’s interpretation of success, I believe through the current Collections with meanings such as Good Manners, Leadership and Attitude, it puts kids in the best position as they develop.
Do you have any plans for the future?
Scalability of Big Little Dreams and getting our messages out to as many people as possible!
About Big Little Dreams
Big Little Dreams’ goal is to provide children with resources that promote productive, positive, and progressive information to give them a kick start at achieving their goals. This information is represented in T-Shirt and Story Book Collections. These stories do not just develop children’s literacy; they convey values, beliefs, attitudes and social norms which, in turn, shape children’s perceptions of reality.
The Big Little Dreams book plus tee combo is available via their website www.BigLittleDreamsAustralia.com.
Having purchased their products as birthday gifts I can genuinely say that the parents of the children receiving them were extremely impressed.
It’s a great concept and and an educational tool assisting in the meaningful raising of children.
Excellent concept for children today. I’m particularly impressed that no bullying is most popular with parents. I have purchased several for gifts and they have always been well received. No better gift than a educational gift.
