We recently caught up with Valerie Pearson from Green Living, who kindly gave us an exclusive interview:
Describe your company in a few words
Green Living Australia is dedicated to helping you get back in control of what you put in and on your body by providing information and products to help you make natural food and body products. (Cheese, yoghurts, probiotic food, fermented vegetables, kefir, etc as well as non-toxic body products and cosmetics.
What motivated you to start Green Living?
My daughter as a child was diagnosed with chemical sensitivity. She reacted badly to the preservatives, artificial flavours and colours found in most of our foods and body products. There was little information to help me navigate this so I started making everything from scratch. Now I want to help others get away from all the toxins hurting us all.
What do you love about making your own food?
You know exactly what is in your food and cosmetics. No nasty surprises.
What are some of your most popular products?
Our yoghurt maker and yoghurt cultures and probiotics.
What do you love about cultured food?
Eating probiotic foods is vitally important to our gut health. Having a balanced microbiome keeps us healthy, giving us a better quality life.
What is the best way to learn how to make your own cheese?
Doing a class is great, but if you cannot get into a class, getting a copy of the book, Home Cheese Making in Australia, is the best option. It’s available in print but also as an eBook.
What has been your proudest moment?
Publishing Home Cheese Making in Australia, after 5 years of working on it was a huge achievement for me.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by my customers and students. To see them change their lives by removing toxins is amazing. I judge my days on how many hugs I get from people who come into my shop or come to a class or lecture. I love to hear stories about their successes. It makes my day.
Do you have any plans for the future?
I am currently finishing up another book on ‘Sugar-Free Home Preserving’. Over consumption of sugar is a major problem in Australia and I wanted to do something about that.
Most of all I just want to continue to help people make cheese, probiotic yoghurt, Kimchi, kefir and Kombucha, soaps and cosmetics, without poisoning themselves with all the crap in main line commercial products and foods.
