Rastras Sci Fi Nightmare solo art show
Jumping Jupiter! We have lift-off for the outta-this-world exhibition of the year from the original homegrown intergalactic metal artist, Rastra Lyall. Being Rastra’s second solo show after his sold-out ray gun exhibition in 2018, it’s guaranteed to go off like a rocket. Dare to fly too close to the sun from Saturday 23rd November.
About Rastra Lyall
Rastra Lyall is a stand out artist from Zillmere who breaks moulds with his unique works. He specialises in custom metal sculpture but is a diverse artist in mediums including painting, signwriting and illustration. His infusion of pop culture, low brow and macabre with a splash of tongue in cheek humour makes his style stand out.
As an environmentally conscious artist, he is passionate about creating sustainable art out of everyday items that are broken, discarded and destined for landfill. He said he enjoys bringing new life and possibilities to recycled art and sharing that with the world.
He is holding his first solo exhibition with a theme of the rise of artificial Intelligence at the newly opened Mayne Line Gallery in Albion. Mayne Line opened just last month and is a collective of Brisbane based artists and practitioners producing art locally and internationally. Coming together with an ‘All As One’ mentality, Mayne Line studio showcases the compilation of creative and considerate minds with a staunchly positive ethos.
Rastra’s obsession with art started at a young age and it stuck. Taken out of school to complete a trade-in Metal fabrication, he never thought he would have the opportunity to explore his love of creating art. But his passion was always there and he used his trade as an advantage to become known as Brisbane’s custom metal artisan.
Rastra has a background in curating “low brow” art shows to support and showcase the talented Brisbane art community, but this is his first opportunity to showcase his works in a solo show of this scale.
Rasta’s unparalleled style has been recognised with awards around Australia and he hopes his first exhibition will inspire others like him to create. It’s not about how much art education you have, it’s just about having the passion and giving it a go.
Rastra will have a number of pieces available for sale from opening night. The exhibition will run from 23-29 November 2019.
