Listening Healing Connecting: 2019 AFTM NAIDOC Exhibition

13 July - 24 August

Listening Healing Connecting: 2019 AFTM NAIDOC Exhibition

Coinciding with 2019 NAIDOC Week, Listening, Healing, Connecting: 2019 AFTM NAIDOC Exhibition is a collaboration between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous artists reflecting on the theme, Voice Treaty Truth.

The exhibition will showcase artworks that were created during a six-week workshop series led by Indigenous artist Duane Doyle, as well as artworks from Indigenous communities.

This year’s theme for NAIDOC Week is Voice Treaty Truth. Voice Treaty Truth were key elements to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which is a set of reforms. One of these reforms is to set up a Makarrata Commission to supervise treaty and truth. Treaties are inseparable from truth. Understanding history is needed for true reconciliation – it is the history of all of us, all of Australia and we need to own it. We need to move forward together – let’s work together for a shared future.

For our AFTM NAIDOC exhibition, Indigenous artists who are socially isolated or live outside of Brisbane were invited to submit work in the spirit of NAIDOC Week theme. Collective or collaborative works with Non-Indigenous artists were also considered.

Art From the Margins, a creative initiative of Wesley Mission Queensland, supports, exhibits and promotes the work of artists living with adversity, mental health issues, physical or intellectual disabilities, or experiencing homelessness and social isolation.

All are welcome and admission is free!
