Food Legends Open Day at Haven Newstead
14 December 2019
Chef icons get Brisbane mastering the most creative Christmas dishes at
Haven Newstead’s first food legends open day
Forget the turkey this year – it’s butterflied organic chicken; whole-baked, salt-crust salmon; and handmade gnocchi with seasonal seafood we’ll be serving up this Christmas – thanks to signature recipes spilled from Australia’s most-lauded chefs.
Brisbane foodies have the chance to learn from Australia’s top-hatted and up-and-coming chefs to create the ultimate Christmas feast with a difference this year, at Haven Newstead’s first-ever Food Legends Open Day on Saturday 14 December 2019.
For the first time, e’cco bistro’s multi-award winning, hatted head chef and founder Philip Johnson; former Jamie-Oliver trained, now head chef at Jocelyn Provision’s Short Order, Callum Rogers; Salt Meats Cheese chef Silvio Bazzanella; and Miele culinary experts Isobel Dreisenstock and Kym Pitt, will come together to teach Brisbane how to master their Christmas festivities – and cook outside the square this year.
Held at the Miele Experience Centre at Haven Newstead, each food expert will lead hour-long, free masterclasses, open to anyone in the community – with up to 30 people able to attend each class.
Haven Newstead General Manager Derek Morell said it’s the first time all food legends behind Brisbane’s most beautiful, culinary precinct have collaborated to share their unique skills and specialties with the community.
“We’re honoured to have some of Brisbane’s most renowned chefs and food experts at Haven – and we’re proud to bring these leaders together so Brisbane can experience an incredible, intimate learning experience and master a stress-free Christmas this year,” Derek said.
“They’ll share their secrets to crafting the perfect dishes – including sourcing the best produce locally and ethically.”
Legendary chef Philip Johnson, will share his secrets to mastering his signature whole-baked salmon in salt crust, with fennel, red onion, a la grecque and salsa verde; and rising chef star, Callum Rogers, will share why cooking butterflied organic chickens will be your surprise, but most coveted Christmas dish.
Australia’s iconic Salt Meats Cheese chef Silvio Bazzanella will have us creating handmade gnocchi with seasonal seafood.
And Miele’s Isobel Dreisenstock and Kym Pitt will teach us how to master the iconic Christmas dessert – the Australian pavlova.
The event coincides with the launch of Miele’s new Generation 7000 product range – setting a new benchmark in technology, obsessive craftsmanship and refined design.
Each chef will use the landmark product range – and share tips for modifications at home.
