In a quiet leafy street in Mt Gravatt, you’ll find the casual ambience of Cenzo’s Bar and Cafe. You wouldn’t think that a cafe set in amongst suburbia would benefit from heavy footfall.
However, this tiny stretch of the street saw many tradespeople and passers-by pull in for a Merlo brew.
One of the handful of new businesses revitalising the former Lumley Street Shopping Centre, its pared-back black and white decor places an emphasis firmly on good food. And it delivers.
Stopping by for lunch, I ordered the Reuben sandwich – a triple decker sandwich filled with pastrami, pickle and melted swiss cheese, accompanied with a Cenzo’s signature dressing.
My friend had the Italian Melt – a delightful concoction of meats, tomato, pesto with a cheeky Balsamic drizzle. I don’t believe we spoke until we’d finished. It was top shelf.
The ‘to go’ crowd are looked after too – couple your take away with a range of treats such as muffins, cakes and Byron Bay Cookies.
As well as coffee, a fully stocked bar of spirits, wine and beer on tap greets a weary traveller. Just when I was fully believing that all cafes in Brisbane shut at 2 pm, thankfully you’ll find a jolly smile and tipple waiting for you Thursday to Sunday nights until 9 pm.
Vegetarian and gluten-free patrons are also well catered for.
