Chef Tom Walton says, “These comforting Caramelised Pear and Vanilla Chai Spiced Oats will have you jumping out of bed in the morning … or get someone else to whip them up and stay under covers! Califia’s Vanilla Oat Milk keeps them super delicious, creamy and plant-based.”

Caramelised Pear and Vanilla Chai Spiced Oats Recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients

Homemade chai spice

  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground cardamom
  • ½ tbsp ground ginger
  • ½ tbsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tbsp ground allspice
  • ½ tsp ground clove

Oats

  • 2 Packham or bosc pears, cut into 6ths or 8ths, core removed
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 ½ tbsp chai spice
  • 1L Califia Farms Vanilla Oat Milk
  • Zest 1 orange or mandarin
  • 1/3 cup toasted macadamia, crushed

Method

  1. First, make the chai spice mix by combining the ingredients together well and store in a jar –
Makes extra so you can use it for a delicious chai latte with more Califia Farms Vanilla Oat Milk later on.
  2. Place a medium frying pan over a medium/high then add the coconut oil, 2 tbsp of maple and the pears.
  3. Cook, tossing gently until they begin to caramelise then add the cinnamon and toss through. You’re looking for softened pears slices and a deep golden caramel. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Combine the oats, 1 ½ tbsp of chai spices, remaining 1 tbsp maple syrup and ¾ of the Vanilla Oat Milk in a medium saucepan and cook over a medium/high heat, stirring often for 5 minutes.
  5. Gradually add more milk as it cooks to create a creamy consistency of the oats. This
will take about 15 minutes and you don’t want it too stiff. You can add a little water if needed.
  6. Serve the oats topped with caramelised pears, caramel sauce and crushed macadamia nuts. Dive in and enjoy the day!
